Thailand is one of the most beautiful honeymoon destinations in the world: warm, welcoming and home to some of the finest hotels anywhere. The difference between a good trip and an unforgettable one comes down to three choices: the month, the coast and the shape of your route.
1. Choose your month first, then your coast
Thailand has two beach coasts, each with its own season.
- Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi, Koh Lanta): at its best from roughly November to April.
- Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui, Koh Phangan): usually best from January to August; October to December is the wettest period there.
Marrying in spring or summer? The Gulf coast is often the smarter choice. In winter, the Andaman coast.
2. A route of two to three weeks
- Bangkok, 2–3 nights. A hotel on the river, time to recover from the flight, temples and great food.
- First island, 5–7 nights. A quiet bay, a villa or room with its own outdoor space.
- Optional second island, 4–6 nights. A different mood: livelier, or even more secluded.
3. What I look for in a hotel
- A quiet location, without loud music from beach clubs nearby.
- A room with privacy: your own terrace and, where possible, your own pool.
- A short transfer after a long journey.
- A good breakfast, and a restaurant where you'll happily stay in the evening.
I'm travelling through Thailand again myself in February 2027, looking at hotels in Bangkok and on the islands. Want first-hand advice? Send me a message.
Frequently asked questions
When is the best time for a honeymoon in Thailand?
On the Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi), November to April is driest. In the Gulf of Thailand (Koh Samui), January to August is usually best, while October to December is wetter. That's why you choose your islands based on your travel month.
How long should a honeymoon in Thailand be?
Two to three weeks is ideal: a few nights in Bangkok to recover from the flight, then one or two islands. More than three stays in three weeks often feels rushed.
Bangkok first, or straight to the beach?
Start with two or three nights in Bangkok. You wake up in your new time zone, get a taste of the city, and enjoy the beach all the more afterwards.
